DoubleTree by Hilton Hull Crowned ‘Best Place to Work’ at Hull BID Awards

21 February 2025 Hotel News

DoubleTree by Hilton Hull has been named Hull BID’s Best Place to Work, a well-deserved recognition of the hotel’s unwavering commitment to its people, culture, and community.

This prestigious award celebrates organisations that go above and beyond to create a workplace where employees feel supported, valued, and inspired to grow, qualities that are deeply embedded in the DoubleTree Hull team ethos.

Training and development are at the heart of our hotel. We continually strive to support our team not just in their areas of expertise, but in developing new skills across the business. Our goal is simple: to grow together, deliver exceptional service, and create an environment that people are proud to be part of. We never rest on our laurels. We’re always learning, adapting, and asking how we can do better, for our team, our guests, and our city.

A Culture of Growth and Opportunity
From the moment a team member joins, DoubleTree by Hilton Hull sets the tone with a thorough induction programme covering health and safety, brand knowledge, and job-specific training. But it doesn’t stop there; one-to-ones with line managers, personal development planning, and cross-departmental learning opportunities ensure employees have the tools and confidence to thrive.

Success stories are frequent: kitchen porters becoming chefs, receptionists progressing into management, and team members discovering new passions within the hotel. In 2024, three senior managers also completed the WARD Academy, a year-long leadership programme aimed at developing the next generation of hospitality leaders.

Empowering Future Generations
Beyond their own team, the hotel is actively shaping the future of the local workforce. Through partnerships with Hull City College, Ganton School, East Riding College, and Kingswood School, the hotel has welcomed students for hands-on learning experiences, from mock interviews and kitchen training to mocktail making and bed-making competitions.

These initiatives have already yielded tangible results: two Hull City College students were offered permanent roles following successful work placements in the hotel’s kitchen.

Looking ahead to 2025, the hotel plans to deepen these educational partnerships, including a unique collaboration where Ganton School students will take over the hotel’s restaurant and kitchen for a lunchtime service.

Diversity, Inclusion & Wellbeing
With over 18 nationalities represented in its workforce, DoubleTree by Hilton Hull embraces diversity and champions inclusivity. The team’s strong values are backed by a robust policy that ensures fairness, consistency, and support for all, regardless of background, ability, or gender.

Flexibility is a hallmark of the hotel’s working culture, essential for students, parents, and anyone with personal or cultural commitments. But more than just accommodating schedules, the team actively nurtures wellbeing and community spirit through team events, friendly competitions, themed parties, and regular recognition.

Giving Back to the Community
The team’s passion for making a difference extends beyond the hotel doors. They regularly support local charities including Hull and East Yorkshire Children’s Charity, Hidden Disabilities, and the HEY Smile Foundation, donating both time and resources to causes close to their hearts.

As the hotel continues to grow and evolve, one thing remains constant — a focus on people.

DoubleTree by Hilton Hull’s recognition as Hull BID’s Best Place to Work is not just an award, it’s a reflection of a living, breathing culture built on passion, progress, and people-first values.
