This week, leaf HOSPITALITY joined Wigan Council and development partners Cityheart, Hilton and Galliford Try on site to see first-hand the progress being made on the new 144-bedroom Hampton by Hilton Wigan – a key element of the Fettlers regeneration scheme.
Having signed the management and operating agreement in late 2025, the hotel will further strengthen our growing portfolio in the North West. Now, with the structure rising from the ground, the scale and impact of the project is becoming increasingly clear.
The Hampton by Hilton will overlook a public square and sit at the centre of Wigan’s most ambitious regeneration project. Once complete, Fettlers will transform the former Galleries shopping centre site into a vibrant new neighbourhood where people can live, shop, work, visit and play.
The development will deliver more than 400 new homes, a cinema and leisure facilities, bars and restaurants, a new market hall and food court, as well as the Hampton by Hilton hotel. The hotel will play a key role in attracting new visitors to Wigan, boosting footfall for local businesses and creating employment opportunities within the town centre.
During the visit to the Wigan town centre site, partners were able to see first-hand the rapid progress across the development, including the rising steel frame of the new Market Hall and major infrastructure works reshaping the skyline.
It’s powerful to stand on site and see this project becoming a reality. When we signed the management agreement last year, we set out a vision for Hampton by Hilton Wigan as a landmark development for the town — and now you can see that vision taking shape. We’re already working behind the scenes to ensure that the hotel delivers the quality and consistency the Hampton brand is known for. We manage every property as if it were our own, and this will be no exception.
Fettlers is a great example of how thoughtful regeneration can unlock new opportunities for a town, and it reflects Hilton’s ongoing commitment to supporting regeneration projects across the UK. We’re pleased to be playing a role in that journey for Wigan, with the Hampton by Hilton hotel set to boost the local economy by attracting visitors, creating employment and helping to bring new energy and investment into the town centre.
Expected to open in 2027, Hampton by Hilton Wigan will feature modern guestrooms, complimentary hot breakfast including the brand’s signature Hampton Waffle, a gym, meeting facilities and secure parking.
