leaf HOSPITALITY to operate Hampton by Hilton Wigan

13 October 2025 Group News

leaf HOSPITALITY has signed an agreement to manage and operate the new Hampton by Hilton Wigan. The 144-bedroom hotel forms a key element of Fettlers – the transformation of the former Galleries shopping centre site being delivered by regeneration specialists Cityheart in partnership with Wigan Council.

At the heart of the Fettlers neighbourhood, Wigan’s flagship regeneration scheme, the hotel will sit alongside a new market hall and food court, leisure attractions, more than 400 new homes and a vibrant public square – all designed to celebrate the town’s proud heritage while creating a dynamic future.

Designed by JM Architects and constructed by Galliford Try, the six-storey, 5,800m² property will feature modern guestrooms, a free hot breakfast including the famous Hampton Waffle, a gym overlooking the new public square, dining and meeting facilities, and secure parking. Once open, it will employ more than 40 staff and play a central role in boosting visitor numbers and activity in the town.

Hampton by Hilton Wigan is a landmark project for both Wigan and our business. As part of the Cityheart-led Fettlers development, this hotel will not only bring a world-class brand to the town but also play a vital role in reshaping the heart of Wigan for generations to come. We’re proud to be trusted with its operation and to support the council and Cityheart’s shared vision for a thriving, future-focused town centre.”

Richard Farrar , Managing Director, leaf HOSPITALITY

The arrival of Hampton by Hilton at Fettlers is a significant milestone for this transformational project and for Wigan town centre. Working in partnership with Wigan Council, Cityheart is delivering a new neighbourhood that celebrates the town’s heritage while creating opportunities for people to live, work and visit. Securing a high-quality hotel operator of this calibre reflects the confidence in our shared vision and underlines the role Fettlers will play in reshaping Wigan’s future.”

Darren Jones, Development Director at Cityheart

I’m delighted we’ve reached another major milestone at Fettlers. It means we’re another step closer to bringing this transformational development to life. We're excited to be working with construction partner Galliford Try and hospitality provider leaf HOSPITALITY. And to see a prestigious brand like Hampton by Hilton investing in our town centre reflects the growing confidence from investors, businesses, and partners in what’s to come — it's all part of a vibrant new chapter for Wigan.

Councillor David Molyneux MBE, Leader of Wigan Council

The hotel is expected to open in late 2027, welcoming business and leisure travellers to the town and strengthening Wigan’s position as a growing visitor destination within Greater Manchester.

This signing marks leaf HOSPITALITY’s 10th hotel and the third in the Northwest, further strengthening our portfolio of hotels managed across the UK.
